Oh Bondage Up Yours! | Black & Orange
The 'Oh Bondage Up Yours!' knit in black and orange is designed in homage to the iconic style of the late, great, Poly Styrene and Punk Band X-Ray Spex. We worked with Poly's daughter Celeste Bell on this second collection, the design has been taken directly from Poly's original hand drawn artwork.Ā
Weāre proud to celebrate Poly, who is only just beginning to receive the recognition she deserves; she was a true revolutionist. Her music and art inveighed against mainstream institutions, disposable culture, conformity and our alienation from the natural world.Ā
The 'Oh Bondage Up Yours!' knit has been handcrafted in Scotland by Sharon, Shirley, Finlay, Sandra, Ann, Allan and Kevin.
In explaining the meaning behindĀ 'Oh Bondage! Up Yours!'Ā Poly said 'Most people want to be ātied upā because it gives them an excuse not to have to think, but on the other hand they donāt. The song expresses the two things. In the verses it says, āI want thatā and in the choruses it says, āUp yoursā to all of that.'Ā The vibrant jigsaw of Polyās story has pieced together by her daughterĀ singer-songwriter Celeste Bell, and writer/artist ZoĆ« Howe inĀ 'DAY GLO'.Ā
